When is a Sinus Graft Needed?
October 6th, 2017

A dental implant treatment is the ideal solution to missing teeth problems. Dental implants are artificial tooth roots that are inserted into the jawbone, and then connected to teeth restorations such as dental crowns or a dental bridge. An implant treatment at London Dental Studio works in fully restoring the normal appearance and function of the smile, after missing one, several, or all teeth due to various causes.

There are times when the placement of implants cannot be made without the aid of other procedures. Jawbone deterioration and the natural anatomy of the mouth area are considerations that need to be examined prior to an implant treatment. An implant may not be placed, for example, in the upper jaw in the back teeth area if the sinus floor does not have sufficient height to support the placement of the implant. In this case, a sinus grafting procedure is needed to increase the height of the sinus area, before the implant treatment can be done.

A sinus augmentation procedure involves the lifting of the sinus floor so that grafting material can be added to the area. The addition of the grafting material is done to increase the height of the upper jawbone so that the area will be able to support the placement of the dental implants. When the grafting material has integrated with the surrounding tissue and completed the healing period, implants can be inserted to provide support for teeth restorations.
